Third time lucky for fearless Fechin’s in under-14 decider

2-7 1-7

IT was third time lucky for St Fechins as they finally got their hands on some silverware, having been disappointed in their previous two finals.

On what was a beautiful night for football, it was the Fechins playing with the wind that started the better.

The inside forward line caused the Pats a lot of trouble with Ivan McKenna scoring a great goal following a rebound off the crossbar, and Josh Murtagh scoring from both play and free kicks.

While the lads from the seaside village led by four points at half time, it could have been more but for the brilliant defending of the St Pats goalkeeper and defenders.

With the wind in the second half now no with the Pat’s, it was time for the St Fechins players to feel the pressure.

Led by the brilliant Aaron Mills, they mounted attack after attack, and soon the scores started to arrive.

It was now the turn of the St Fechins defenders to do their bit, led by Harry O’Neill.

There was still time for some drama as the St Fechins left half back Dylan Boylan raced up field to shoot over from 35 years and Eoin Hackett netted a goal from a long range free.

Mills scored a brilliant individual goal, only for the referee to cancel it out for an infringement. There was still time for a late goal from a penalty by Mills, only for the referee to blow the final whistle shortly after.

St Fechins: Eoin Hackett 1-1, Ivan McKenna 1-0, Josh Murtagh 0-3, Dylan Boylan 0-2, Conor Brennan 0-1, Hugh McClean 0-1.
