Combined side show Trim no mercy

VINCENT’S/CURRAHA 2-12 TRIM 0-6

-

ST VINCENT’S/CURRAHA powered their way to the MFC Division 2 Final following an impressive display against a strong Trim outfit.

The match was played at a frantic pace from start to finish, with two strong-running teams battling it out for a place in the decider.

Niall McLarnon opened the scoring for St Vincent’s/Curraha following good work from Conor O’Farrell and Ryan Hand and Jack Byrne quickly added further points within 10 minutes. With Andrew Battersby causing all sorts of problems Trim were forced into conceding frees and it allowed Sean Keogh plenty of opportunities to increase his side’s tally.

Trim only managed a single point in the opening 20 minutes as they found it difficult to break down a resolute defence.

Good teamwork yielded Conor Moriarty three points on the trot, with Conor O’Farrell also bagging a score, and a single point reply from Trim left St Vincent’s/Curraha leading 0-9 to 0-2 at the break.

Trim started the second half brightly and had a point on the scoreboard in the very early stages. However, a great interception by Andrew McEntee sent midfielder Brian Joyce on a solo run and he finished to the net in great style to put St Vincent’s/Curraha firmly in the driving seat.

Trim, to their credit, never gave up and hit a purple patch which yielded three successive points. However, St Vincent’s/Curraha were out of sight after a great block from Patrick McGill set up Conor Moriarty whose shot hit the post but was then blasted to the net by livewire Andrew Battersby.

Conor O’Farrell then broke through shortly afterwards and, bearing down on the keeper, let fly with a rasping shot which screamed just over the bar.
