EIGHTEEN-YEAR-OLD Emmet Carolan made a dream first-team debut for Newfoundwell as they claimed an impressive away win over Caragh in round two of the Leinster Junior Cup on Sunday.

The Kildare had already knocked one of last year’s FAI Junior Cup semi-finalists out of the competition, but they were playing catch-up in this tie after only 20 minutes.

Young Carolan made a run to the near post to meet Tom Reilly’s corner kick with a header that bounced into the net off the underside of the bar.

Both sides had other chances to score in what proved to be a tense first half, with Bryan Smith in the Newfoundwell goal making one good save, while Dale Harding saw his free kick held at the other end of the field.

Caragh made a bright start to the second half and the ‘Well suffered a serious blow mid-way around the 67-minute mark when striker Ciaran Carroll (pictured below) - who was making his long-awaited return to the team following a niggling injury - was sent off for a second bookable offence.

However, Caragh’s advantage was quickly nullified when their captain was also dismissed for two yellow cards and with space beginning to appear all over the pitch John Kermode showed great footwork before helping himself to the ‘Well’s second goal in the 75th minute.

The Drogheda men sealed ththeir place in round three with 110 minutes remaining when Kermode held the ball up well before rereleasing Dean Carolan - brother oof Emmet - who scored with a fifine effort.

That ensured a happy bus jojourney home from Kildare and Newfoundwell were now turn their attentions to getting their league challenge back on track as they trtravel to face Kingscourt Harps nnext Sunday.
