SHARON HORGAN’S NEW TELEVISION SERIES STARTS ON SKY TV
She may write about Catastrophe and Divorce but for local woman Sharon Horgan things have never looked brighter.
With a hit Primetime show in America starring Sarah Jessica Parker and a new movie in the offing for Reece Witherspoon, the Bellewstown native is the toast of tinseltown.
The Meath writer, who grew up in Bellewstown and attended the Sacred Heart in Drogheda, has been earning critical acclaim for her new HBO TV series, Divorce, starring Sarah Jessica Parker.
Now she has revealed that she is penning a film script for the Oscar winning actress Reese Witherspoon.
She told Red magazine how she came to team up with the star: ‘Reese set up her own production company specifically to create better roles for women because she was fed up with getting sent scripts where she was some funny guy’s girlfriend.’
Sharon’s hit Channel 4 show Catastrophe garnered attention in the US after a glowing endorsement from Witherspoon, who mentioned it on her social media accounts.
‘She was so great about Catastrophe,’ said Sharon. ‘She definitely piled a few extra thousand viewers by Instagramming about it. ‘She saw Pulling and that’s why we hooked up.’ The TV funnywoman teamed up with Rob Delaney – America’s most influential Twitter comedian – to make the romantic comedy about an Irish teacher and an American businessman, who, discover she is pregnant after a week long fling.
Witherspoon tweeted: ‘New obsession #Catastrophe on @AmazonVideo - @SharonHorgan & @RobDelaney made me laugh so loud on a plane, I was told to be quiet... twice.’
Born in London in 1970, Horgan was raised at her parents’ turkey farm in Bellewstown, Meath.
Her younger brother is Shane Horgan, former Leinster and Ireland rugby star, who is currently working as a sports pundit on RTE.
The 46-year-old actress – who has two daughters of her own, Sadhbh (12) and Amer (8) – has said her own recollections of her pregnancies were part of the inspiration for the character.
The in-demand star – who is the sister of ex-Irish rugby player Shane Horgan– said she was bowled over when Sarah Jessica Parker approached her to write a show for her return to the small screen after the iconic Sex In The City series.
