Twins abducted and brought to Drogheda

-

GARDAÍ are investigating a bizarre crime where a set of twins were abducted from outside a local fast food outlet and taken to Drogheda where thieves demanded a cash card and pin number so they could steal money from an ATM.

Two male twins in their 20s were leaving McDonald’s at Millfield Shopping Centre in Balbriggan at 4am on Saturday morning, October 22 when they got into a car they thought was a taxi.

On entering the vehicle, the driver locked all the doors and drove away in the direction of Drogheda, along a series of back roads. At some point in the journey, they met a second car and were ordered into it by the driver who said he had a gun.

Both cars continued onto Drogheda, eventually stopping at an ATM on West Street in the town where they ordered the twins to hand over a bank card and PIN number, which allowed the thieves to steal €300 in cash.

Later, the victims were driven back as far as Balscadden and dumped on the side of the road at 6.30am, some two-and-a-half hours into their terrifying ordeal. One of the twins had their phone stolen in the incident but the other was able to raise the alarm at that point, calling a family friend to come and pick them up and take them home. The abduction and theft was later reported to Balbriggan gardaí who are investigating. Gardaí in Drogheda said they are working with Balbriggan gardaí and said CCTV footage will be examined.
