Play-off victory would be icing on cake for Nally
and that worked as well. They all knew what they had to do.
‘David Sheeran came in there and did a brilliant job for us in the absence of Graham Reilly. He has been good for us all year. With his work and that, he cannot train every night, only one night a week and that is probably the reason why he doesn’t start. But when he comes on he always does what is asked of him.
‘He was told on Monday night that he was playing, so he had a whole week to get himself ready.’
Nally compared the replay to the All-Ireland qualifiers and the six-day turnaround.
‘I knew that six days is very short in terms of recovery. I kind of thought that some of the lads mightn’t reach the heights of last week. We had that in the back of our minds. We had fresh legs on the bench - David O’Byrne came off early last week but was excellent there today.’somey Maintaining discipline was anotheanother aspect of the gamgame that was high on Nally’s ageagenda.
‘We made it loud and cleclear to our plaplayers that thethere may be a bbacklash to whawhat was perceived ceiveperceived as hard tacklintackling and late tackling ththe last day. ‘I was stresstressing to our lads, that goes for uus as well. The referee is not going to be just watching Dunderry.
‘We picked up a yellow card early on which I was annoyed over, but other than that they tackled properly and did what they were asked, so you cannot really have any fault with that, or the referee.’
And looking ahead to Senior football for St Colmcille’s in 2017, he added: ‘It is going to be tough at Senior level, but I always thought the Division 1 league is a great measure for the Senior Championship, so if you are lucky enough to play in Division 1 that should bode well for Senior Championship football.
‘We are conscious that we have a play-off match to stay in the top grade and if we can win that one, and winning the Corn Na Boinne and the championship, it will have been a good year.’
