Woods snatches points for Harps as Duleek pay penalty

WILLIAM Woods struck a priceless winner for Boyne Harps in the 88th minute as the Drogheda side eased their relegation worries with a deserved win at United Park on Thursday night last.

It was a disappoint­ing result for Duleek, who were hoping to drag themselves towards mid-table in the Premier Division, but they didn’t perform to the level they showed when scoring three goals in the second half of their recent game against Rock Celtic,

Despite that, this game remained goal-less for 70 minutes before Duleek took the lead through Robbie Daly who followed up after Daniel Martin’s deflected shot came off the crossbar.

Incredibly, after working so hard to get their noses in front, the men from the Tollstone conceded an equaliser inside 30 seconds as Woods squaring the ball to Steven Campbell who slotted home from close range.

Worse was to follow for Duleek two minutes from time when a penalty was awarded against them and former Drogheda United and Dundalk striker Woods held his nerve to convert the spot kick for Pete Brennan’s side.

The best outfield players on the night for Duleek were Cormac Reid, Robbie Daly and Daniel Martin, but their man of the match was Keith Carolan who produced a mature performanc­e in goals.
