Meath Pride of Place awards held in Duleek courthouse
THE Laytown Bettystown Municipal District Pride of Place awards were held in Duleek last week and saw Julianstown’s Jackie O’Shea named as the volunteer of the year.
Jackie has adopted Julianstown as her own and can be seen out nearly every day working hard to keep the village looking great.
Chairperson of Laytown-Bettystown Municipal District, Cllr. Tom Kelly warmly welcomed the guests, which included all the local Councillors and representatives from 24 local groups. Cllr. Kelly strongly praised the great work done by all the groups in the District in keeping the whole area beautifully presented.
Winners in the Housing Categories, Youth Project, Approach Roads, Rural Heritage, Rural Group, Shop Front and Hospitality/Tourism will go forward to represent the Municipal District in the County finals where they will compete with the winners from the other 5 Municipal Districts. Towns and village winners will also be announced at the County finals to be held on the 10th November in the Solstice Arts Centre, Navan. The following were the winners on the night: Housing Estate – Small 1st Marion Terrace, Slane 2nd Glenpatrick, Slane Housing Estate – Medium 1st Churchlands, Slane 2nd Abbey View, Slane Housing Estate – Large 1st Sevitt Hall, Bettystown 2nd Alverno Heights, Laytown Best Approach Road 1st Julianstown (Drogheda Road) 2nd Duleek (Navan Road) Best Youth Project ; 1st Broomfield and District Vacant Premises ; O’Connells Barn, Duleek Community Involvement: Slane. Rural Group ; Broomfield and District Rural Heritage Broomfield and District Tourism/Hospitality ; Conyngham Arms Hotel, Slane Best Shopfront ; 1st The Lime Kiln, Julianstown 2nd Georges Patisserie, Slane.
