Summerhill squeeze through
SUMMERHILL SENESCHALSTOWN 1-12 1-10
SENESCHALSTOWN saw their involvement in the 2016 U-21 FC come to an end at the first hurdle on Saturday afternoon in Trim.
The Yellow Furze outfit were left to rue a series of missed goal opportunities which proved costly at the final whistle.
Cathal Finnegan pointed twice for Seneschalstown in the opening eight minutes and further points from Ryan O’Dowd and Eddie Meade left it 0-4 to 0-1 at the end of the opening quarter.
Summerhill had the breeze at their backs in the opening half and they came much more into the match reeling off five points on the spin to push into the lead approaching the interval.
Seneschalstown however responded in admirable fashion when they fashioned a goal from Finnegan. Adam Carey and Sean Noonan both added points and at the break Seneschalstown led 1-6 to 0-7.
It was all Summerhill at the start of the second half and it didn’t take them long to edge back in front when Conor Lyons slotted over a free and then converted from the penalty spot.
They eventually went three clear before Cathal Finnegan sent over two frees and Eddie Meade also found the target for the equalising score.
Summerhill outscored their opponents three points to one in the final five minutes as Seneschalstown spurned a couple of goal chances.
Best for Seneschalstown were John Smith, Cathal Finnegan and Ronan Conneely.
