STABBED 18 TIMES AND DUMPED IN CANAL

Victim was placed in boot of sinking car

GARDAI have launched an investigat­ion after a 21-year-old Drogheda man was stabbed 18 times and dumped into the boot of a car which was then driven into the Boyne canal at Oldbridge (pictured).

He survived after kicking his way through the back seat and escaping the sinking vehicle.

He was spotted, covered in blood, walking along the road by passing motorists who rang Drogheda gardai. The emergency services were called and he was taken by ambulance to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital. The incident, which occurred last Thursday night, followed reports of an altercatio­n near Knockcommo­n school around 10.30pm.

He survived after kicking his way through the back seat and escaping the sinking vehicle after he was bundled into the boot of the car by his attackers.

The man managed to alert locals after he was spotted, covered in blood, walking along the road by passing motorists who rang Drogheda gardai.

The emergency services were called and he was taken by ambulance to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital.

He is understood to have suffered a number of stab injuries and suffered a punctured lung as a result of the attack.

However, the injured man’s condition is not believed to be life threatenin­g.

The incident, which occurred last Thursday night, followed reports of an altercatio­n near Knockcommo­n school around 10.30pm.

Gardai from Navan arrived at the scene to find a large amount of blood on the road. They also found a knife.

Gardai recovered a car- a red Volkswagen Passat with a 00 Galway registrati­on - in the Boyne Canal at Oldbridge.

The injured party in the incident is from the Drogheda area.

Gardai are appealing for anyone who noticed suspicious activity around Drogheda, The canal, or Knockcommo­n between 10pm and 11pm on Thursday night, to contact Navan Garda Station on (046) 9079930.
