THE WINNERS OF THE DROGHEDA INDO BEST CHRISTMAS WINDOWS

- By HUBERT MURPHY

THERE’S no doubting the design talents of our local retail workers if you’re to judge by the standard of our Drogheda Bonanza/Drogheda Independent Christmas Window competition.

If fact, they were so good we couldn’t but select five winners in various sections and then add five highly commended entries.

Claiming the best shop window was The Gift Box on Laurence’s Street. The place is a treasure throve of all things Christmas and the window is the perfect advert!

A glorious reindeer called Barrington showed off the window of West 29 to perfection for the best cafe/restaurant title.

And Jackie Taaffe and the crew in the Resource Centre played their part in adding to the spirit on the North Quay with a best business window.

Barrocco picked up the best bar for its welcoming look and the best ‘other’ went the way of the Vincent’s Shop where Lisa Kerr McArdle seems to be on a winning streak. Her front window in the Laurence’s Centre was handmade! But they were not the only winners. The Dominican Priory window was pure Christmas and a great entry this year. They have big plans for next year so no sign of Fr Jim and Fr Joe going anywhere soon!

Hallmark on West Street was magnificent and not far from them, Biofresh on Peter Street was equally eye catching.

An award also went to the team at the Copper Kettle. The place is flying and the window stunning. Look up when you hit Peter Street and see it.

As ever, the Crafty Fox was amongst the winners and why not. Their window is a work of art.

But apart from the winners, we had other wonderful entries from the Shoe Rack, Wogan Interiors, Euro Giant, Kierans Deli, Enable Ireland, Bernard English (and his red ribbon), The Design Gallery, Superpharm, Closet, McKenna Man, Boomerang, Westcourt Hotel, Millmount Craft Studio.

And mentions too for some spots that were noticed, the colourful decorations at The Bull Ring, Tuites and Ollies, Cagneys, JBs Bar, Avenue, Dowds of Shop Street, the cancer shop, Kevin McAllister, the old style wonder of Hurley Brothers, the Pheasant, Crilly and McGrath, Sapphire and the Bridal Shop and not forgetting La Pure Salon and the Cottage Pharmacy on Scarlet Street.

Who knows, a few more might get a mention too in the next few weeks...
