BOYNE Harps will have their vice-chairman Wayne Wright installed as interim manager for this Thursday night’s league clash against Navan Cosmos after Pete Brennan surprisingly stepped down following Sunday’s excellent league victory against Trim Celtic.

Brennan (pictured) had steered the Drogheda club away from the Premier Division relegation zone in recent weeks and the win away to Trim - which dealt a serious blow to the Meath side’s title hopes - was arguably their best result of the season.

Reacting to the news on Tuesday morning, Wright said: ‘We were aware of things over the past week and Pete decided to step down after the game and it will fall to me to look after things until we get somebody else more permanent.

‘It’s not even the case of trying to steady the shipship. Pete is a very good coach who has put a lot of time and effort into it.

‘He lived and breathed it and in the last five games we’ve won three, drawn one and lost one which is the best form in the league.

‘We’ve got Navan Cosmos on Thursday da and that’s a massive game. If we getge another three points you are back in the mix.’

Wright said he expected to be in chargech for only this week’s game and theth club should have a new permanent manager in place once the league resumesre in the New Year.

Robert Cashman and Bernard Osborne bo scored to give Harps a 2-0 leadlea in Sunday’s match in Trim, only forfo the home side to pull a goal back on the stroke of half-time amid claims fromfro Harps that the ball had gone outou of play.

In the second period Trim piled on theth pressure, but a resolute Harps defence held on for a priceless three points.
