OUR Lady’s College’s Under-16 Cadette A made hay against St Paul’s of Tallaght when registering a big SSE League win in Drogheda last Tuesday.

St Paul’s had started the season with two club players, but these had decided not to play for the remainder of the season due to exams and that certainly helped Our Lady’s as they themselves had no club players.

The Greenhills side duly stormed into a 10-0 lead, with the scores shared around, but in the second quarter Karolina Slionskyte dominated, scoring six of her team’s eight points to make it 18-2 at half-time.

Things did not improve for St Paul’s and they ended up on the wrong end of a 38-7 scoreline, with Rachel Woods’ efforts under both boards deserving special mention.

Elsewhere, Our Lady’s College’s Under-19 Senior A team celebrated their first win in the SSA Division 1 league after surviving a late scare against hosts Skerries Community College on Thursday last.

The spoils were even at the end of quarter one, four points each, but the second was Our Lady’s best this season as they scored 14 points to Skerries’ 7. Ysabela Flores scored six points in this period, while the Skerries club player was limited to just four.

Quarter three saw Skerries apply all the pressure and score 10 points, while keeping Our Lady’s scoreless, and that left ‘College’ trailing 21-18 and on the back foot.

However, they weren’t about to throw in the towel and Melissa Lucente got a score back before captain Soso Tshunungwa stepped up to the plate to pull victory out of the bag for her team.

Two quick steals and two successful lay-ups by Tshunungwa levelled the game at 24 points each, and with 12 seconds on the clock the captain had two free throws and scored one to put her side ahead.

But still there was time for Skerries’ club player to launch a threepoint shot that hit the ring before the whistle blew and Skerries could celebrate an excellent win.

The Under-19 B team also faced Skerries the same day, but they trailed 14–6 at the first break and that slow start cost them dearly as the game finished 27-20 to the home side. Lindsey Eriamietor was the visitors’ top scorer on 10 points.

Morning Star and Lantern Bar continue to head the chasing pack in the top flight, while Maguires also had to work hard to shake off second-bottom Sally in the First Division where Lynchs B picked up their first point in a surprise away draw with Matthews.
