With both the Simonstown and O’Mahony’s second teams dropping out, it also means that Moynalty, who finished runners-up in last year’s Junior B, will step up to the Junior A grade, while Clonard - who were relegated to Junior B at the end of last season - will now continue in the ‘A’ grade.
Kilmainhamwood delegate Jim Condra pointed out that in recent years single junior clubs were at a disadvantage if they met a second team from a senior club in the early stages of the championship as that team would have a much stronger outfit than later on in the competition.
The change will mean that 12 first-team junior clubs will be included in the top two groups of the Junior A FC. The top three from these two divisions qualify for quarter-finals. Just two teams will qualify from Group C which will consist of the six second teams.
The proposal received the approval of delegates by a comfortable majority.
The knockout competition in the county will be run on a similar basis to last year, despite a new format being passed 12 months ago.
Rathkenny were successful in having the new regulation deleted and replaced by the previous one, after Barney Allen pointed out that a new format for the Feis Cup and other knockout competitions was simply unworkable.
Dunboyne sought to have second teams included in the A League, but this was rejected by delegates.
Curraha requested that all clubs visibly display their club ground’s Eircode so that it is easily obtained in the event that emergency services need to be directed to that location. This was approved without opposition.
