SET DANCING WEEKEND

Set Dancers in their hundreds will again descend on Termonfeck­in for the Annual Set Dancing Weekend which takes place in An-Grianan this weekend. It is described as a “Fun Filled Weekend” with plenty of activities for all the visitors. The official opening is on Friday evening with a great nights entertainm­ent which also includes a Ceili with music provided by local group Triskell.

There will be numerous workshops over the weekend which inculde Old Time Dancing, Set Dancing, Sean Nos, Beginners Tin Whistle, Singing, Flute and Concertina. On Saturday night, there will be another Ceili with music from Donie Nolan and Taylors Cross.

The farewell Ceili on Sunday afternoon will feature music from Darty Ceili Band. John and Sheila Mc Evoy, Jim Finegan and all the organisers are looking forward to seeing everyone. Don’t forget that Set Dancing takes place in Sandpit Hall on Thursday nights at 8.30pm.

MACRA NA FEIRME

Congratula­tions to the Termonfeck­in Macra Debating team who defeated a team from South Leitrim in the latest round of the Debating competitio­n held in Athboy recently. The team consisted of Mary Moran, Eamon Briscoe, Helena Reynolds and Eamonn Mc Quillian. On the night Mary Moran took home the trophy for Best Speaker. Thanks to all who supported and helped the the team. They have progressed to the next round on Saturday January 28th.

At the moment the club are starting preparatio­ns for the National Talent competitio­n in Disco Dancing and Set Dancing. Other categories include Solo Singing, Solo Instrument­al, Comedy/Novelty Act, Mastermind and Ballad Group. if anyone is interested, please get in touch.

A big thank you to all past and present members who helped out on the Fun Horse Run. It was a huge success and a great day for the club along with Piperstown Equestrian Centre, Louth hunt and all participan­ts on the day. As always new members are welcome to join the club. ST FECHINS AGM

The St Fechins AGM was held in Forge Field Farm Café recently. The following positions on the Club Committee were filled on the night. Chairman: John McEvoy, Vice-Chairmen: John McGlew and Matthew Ronan, Secretary: Frank Hughes, Assistant Secretary: Maire Devine, Treasurer: Mary Briscoe, Assistant Treasurer: Cathal Ryan, PRO: Donancha O’Connell, Cultural Officer: Donal Lynch, Registrar: Michelle Mooney, Health and Wellbeing Officer: Anthony Duff, Developmen­t Officer: Niall Carolan, Childrens Officer: Colm Mulholland, County Board Representa­tives: Michael Holcroft and Vincent McGlew.

In his address on the nigh,t Chairman John McEvoy congratula­ted all the teams on a fantastic year where they excelled on and off the field. He also thanked all St Fechins players, coaches, supporters and sponsors for all their efforts during the year and wished them every success in 2017. St Fechins and Louth Hurler Seaghan Conneely is nominated for the Drogheda Independen­t Sports Star of the Year Award after his goal scoring heroics for Louth in Croke Park.

The Club hope that all St Fechins supporters will complete and return the form in the Sport section of the DI. St Fechins have a number of players involved with county squads at the moment and we wish them the best of luck in their upcoming matches. The Termonfeck­in Credit Union Ltd AGM will be held on Tuesday January 31st in ther Credit Union Office at 8pm. All members welcome.

WHIST

Whist is held on Sunday nights at 8.30pm in Sandpit Hall. If you are a regular player or would like to learn how to play Whist, why not come along? All are welcome.

ERIN’S RUN

The 3rd Annual Erin’s Run takes place at An Grianan on Saturday February 11th.at 12.00pm. The Run in memory of Erin Curran is 5km and funds raised will go specifical­ly towards the Intensive Care Unit and Neurology department­s in the Children’s University Hospital, Temple Street. It costs €20 for an individual to take part, €40 for a family of 2 adults and 2 or 3 children and €5 for those under 16. There will also be a chance to register on Friday February 10th from 6pm-7pm in the Old Gym at An Grianan and again on the morning of the Run from 10am to 11.30am. REMEMBERIN­G JACK

The Jack Matthews Memorial Run organised by Tullyallen Macra na Feirme is getting closer so it is time to whip out those big mean machines and get them sparkling to tip top shape. Jack Matthews from Cartown was a former Tullyallen Macra member who sadly lost his life tragically in September 2016.

The “Jack Matthews Memorial Run” which takes place on Sunday February 12th will be in aid of SOUND and Crumlin Hospital. Registrati­on will begin at 12 pm in Drummonds Agri Merchants, Termonfeck­in. It costs €20 per vehicle to participat­e and the Run will end in Dolly Mitchell’s on the Drogheda to Slane road. All are welcome to participat­e and join in on the day. All forms of transport are welcome.

ADORATION

Eucharisti­c Adoration takes place on Monday evenings from 7-8pm in the Church of the Immaculate Conception. Why not come and spend some quiet time in the presence of the Lord.

ST. FECHINS LOTTO

The numbers drawn were 2, 3, 11 and 12. There was no jackpot winner. The €100 winner was Rosemary Burnell. Winners of €20 were Eileen Mc Donnell, Helena Kirwan, Bevan Duffy, Larry Murtagh and Rory Mulholland. The jackpot this week is worth €3,600.

The Winter League took off last weekend. Best of luck to all the teams and hopefully weather conditions will remain as pleasant and sunny as last weekend. Junior-1st: Ray McEvoy 38, 2nd: Colin Campbell 40 (ob6 12). Ladies-1st: Mary Casey 42, 2nd: Christine Carroll 45 (ob9 21½). Winter League: 5 points- Team 8: Margaret McCabe, Kieran Collier, Sean Breen and Gerry Breen Jnr.: -41. 3 points-Team 7: Cepta Maddick, Gerry Rock, Ray McEvoy and Dermot Smyth: -36.

Next weekend is Week 2 of the Winter League and it will be an 18 Gross. Times of play are Friday 27th and Saturday 28th at 1.30pm, Sunday January 29th at 9.30am and 1.30pm.

The Seapoint A.G.M. took place last week with the formation of a new Committee. Captains for 2017 are Ladies Captain–Ann Ward, Gents Captain–Barry McQuillan. We wish the new Committee all the best for the year ahead.

Both Scoil Naomh Feichin and Scoil Mhuire gan Smal are now accepting new Junior Infant enrolments for the 2017/18 School year. Enrollment applicatio­n forms are available from both School offices and must be returned no later than Friday February 17th.
