Louth slay Cats to keep revival going

-

of a disaster for them as the home side dominated the opening thirty minutes.

Louth got off to the best possible start with a goal in the opening minutes from Aoife Byrne after good interplay with Ann Marie Murphy.

Kilkenny found it difficult to get the ball out of defence against the strong wind and the Louth players dominated play from their opponents kick outs.

This dominance was capitalised on by the Louth forwards as they shared the scores with Aoife Byrne again finding the net and points from Byrne, Aoife Gregory, Paula Murray, Susan Byrne, Sinead Woods, Sara Moore and Rebecca Carr.

With full forward Murphy the catalyst for many of the scores, Louth were not flattered by a half time lead of 2-20 to 0-0.

Kilkenny started the second half with more confidence, knowing the wind was at their backs, and hit 1-2 without reply in a four-minute period.

The second half was a more even game of football as the Louth backs stood up to their task with Kilkenny coming more into the game.

Louth added seven points in the second half against the wind as Kilkenny amassed a total score of only 1-5 showing that even with the elements against them Louth were willing to fight for possession all over the pitch.

Aided by a number of well taken points from Paula Murray, the Reds were soon back in the ascendency.

Victory keeps their hopes of a top four finish and a place in the semi-finals on track.

Louth now have a three week break, as club games commence, before they travel to play Wicklow on March 19th. They entertain Derry on March 26th and Fermanagh on April 2nd.
