However, Bellurgan drew level inside 60 seconds when Brian White collected the ball in midfield and worked a one-two with Ciaran Sheelan to thread a pass through to Niall Donnelly who shot low and hard past the Duleek goalkeeper.

Donnelly had been foiled earlier in a similar situation where he had been placed with only the goalkeeper to beat, but the latter produced a great save at the expense of a corner kick. Ciaran Sheelan also went close with a shot from 30 yards which flew inches wide.

As the storm settled down, Bellurgan took command of the play in the second half, and only a terrific save by the Duleek goalkeeper prevented Ciaran Sheelan putting Bellugan ahead on 55 minutes after fine play down the left by John Smith before Niall Donnelly set him up to shoot from outside the box.

Cormac Renaghan also went close as Stephen Finnegan whipped in another dangerous cross from the right.

The pressure eventually paid off with a goal that decided the tie and was as good as any scored anywhere this season.

It was the culminatio­n of a move started by goalkeeper Arthur who threw the ball out to Sean McEvoy, and he linked up with Brian White who transferre­d the ball to Ciaran Sheelan only a few yards inside the Duleek half.

Then a bewilderin­g series of one-twos resulted in Niall Donnelly cutting in from the left side to score the all-important goal from 10 yards.
