Ardee duo’s Leinster delight

-

TWO provincial medals were captured by Ardee & District athletes on a weekend when the club was also well represented at a major charity event.

First up, Jonathan Commins and Conor McMahon travelled to compete at the fabulous new facilities in the new National Indoor Arena in Abbotstown where they had qualified to take part in the Leinster Indoor Championships.

Jonathan was competing in the Boys Under-17 shot putt and a mighty 11.59m effort on his second throw - a personal best with the heavier 5kg implement - saw him move into medal contention.

After a further three throws he duly took his place on the podium to receive a silver medal for second place.

Conor was competing in the Boys U-18 high jump and after reaching a season’s best of 1.75m he also stepped up to the rostrum where he received a bronze Leinster medal for finishing third.

Elsewhere, some of the club’s coaches and mentors joined athletes in Tallanstown to take part in the run/walk for Dara. This was a charity event hosted by Glyde Rangers GFC to raise funds for local mother Dara Breen Conlon who travels to Germany to receive medical treatment.

With huge crowds in attendance, most enjoyed the tough, hilly 6k course and Ardee & District brother and sister Jack and Samantha McCarron were rewarded for their efforts as they took to the stage in the Glyde Rangers hall to accept their prizes for first boy and first girl home.
