Greenhills girls to celebrate 40 years since Leaving Cert

- Fiona MAGENNIS

THE Greenhills class of 1972-77 are holding a class reunion to mark the 40th anniversary of the end of their schooldays.

The class last held a reunion back in 1992 to mark 15 years since they left school and now they’ve decided it’s time for another.

‘It’s hard to believe but its 40 years since we did our Leaving Certificate in the summer of 1977,’ says Fiona Reilly nee Coleman one of the organisers. There were roughly 120 students who started in first year together which consisted of four first year classes with about 30 pupils to each class. The class names in first year for this group were ‘Rosa Mystica’, ‘Virgo Potens’, ‘Janua Coeli’ and ‘Virgo Fidelis’.

Past pupils Jean Bell, Geraldine Balfe, Joan Whyte, Colette Traynor, Joyce O’Connor and Brid Usher along with Fiona have formed the organising committee and are busy trying to locate past pupils in the hope to have as many there as possible.

“A reunion is a great chance to catch up and reminisce about our school days. It will be tinged with sadness as unfortunately six of the past pupils that we know of cannot be with us as they have passed away. The six girls are, Irene Loughran RIP, Angela Martin Thomas RIP, Margaret Early Hanratty RIP, Alison Kelly RIP, Maureen Drury RIP and Nuala Mc Glone RIP. However we will remember them all with great fondness.’

The Reunion will take place on Friday, June 23rd in the Glenside Hotel at 7.30pm. Buffet meal €20, paid in advance. Please contact Fiona Coleman Reilly 086.6861647 for more details.
