Plunketts €20k Drop is huge success

-

THE first fundraiser of its kind, based on the Television gameshow, The 20k Drop, was held in Drogheda in aid of the Oliver Plunketts GAA building fund.

The Westcourt Hotel was ideally suited for such an event and they did themselves proud in the manner in which they presented the function room on the night. Pallas Mgt who have the franchise for this activity were highly in praise of the effort and presentation concerned.

The fight major sponsors of the event were all present for the occasion as well as a considerable amount of the advertisers who supported the project. The Plunketts are greatly indebted to all who supported the event and are delighted with their own members who came out in great numbers to enjoy the fruits of their labour so to speak.

The entire show was great fun throughout and the contestants who were lucky to be picked out were amply rewarded for their participation. The raffle was also well supported but the surprise and excitement of the evening was the auction and the eager way the audience pitted themselves against each other! Well done to all concerned especially Bláithín Ó hEochaidh for her drive and organising skills. introduction to the event which definitely had the attendees feeling good on a Tuesday morning!

To highlight the national reach and local impact of their network Volunteer Centres all across Ireland threw open their doors to the public. Louth Volunteer Centre hosted coffee mornings in all of their centres across Louth at the same time that morning. Their office in Bolton Street in Drogheda was particularly well attended with people who were already registered with Louth Volunteer Centre popping in for a chat; individuals calling in to learn more about volunteering in Drogheda; and community organisations calling in for a cuppa.

Gráinne Berrill, Louth Volunteer Centre Manager stated “Volunteering has such a positive effect on how people feel and also the wider community. We are absolutely delighted so many people in Drogheda took the time to attend our events, and to take the chance to find out more about the potential of volunteering and the many opportunities that are available in this area.”

Anyone interested in getting involved in volunteering should get in touch with Louth Volunteer Centre by calling 041 9809008, checking their website www.volunteerlouth.ie or calling in to their office in Bolton Street.
