Ardee trio through to All-Irelands

-

THREE Ardee & District club athletes are bound for the upcoming All-Ireland Schools Championships after producing top-drawer performances in the provincial competition at Morton Stadium.

On day one of the finals Jonathan Commins, representing Ardee Community School, competed in the Intermediate Boys 80m hurdles and despite giving his all over the flights of hurdles he finished just outside the medals.

But that was not the case in the Under-16 shot where Commins excelled, throwing a massive 13.01m to secure top spot on the podium and a Leinster Schools gold medal.

Aoibheann Carolan was representing St Vincent’s (Dundalk) in the Minor Girls shot and threw 8.98m to finish third - just 1cm behind the silver medallist.

On Day 2 of the championships it was the turn of Conor McMahon, representing Ardee Community School, as he competed in the Senior Boys high jump.

Achieving a new personal best of 1.85m to come second, McMahon was delighted with his performance.

Elsewhere, Ardee & District’s Under-10 Boys relay team were in action in Leixlip at the Leinster Championships Relays.

The quartet - comprising Tom Maguire, Callum Carvery, Dylan McCarron and Arthur Sands - qualified through the heats for the final where they ran very well to finish in fifth place.
