Towtruck workers attacked with bricks
WORKERS CAME UNDER FIRE WHILE ATTEMPTING TO TOW A VEHICLE
GARDAÍ in Drogheda are investigating after a towtruck driver and his co-worker came under attack from a gang of youths who hurled bricks and other misiles at them in Laurence Drive last week.
The men were removing a vehicle from the estate at the request of the gardaí who had earlier seized the car when the aggressive incident happened last Monday, June 19th.
The workers were in the process of loading the car onto the truck when they were approached by a gang of youths who began shouting and hurling various objects, including bricks, at the pair.
The men managed to escape without injury, however the front window of the towtruck was smashed during the attack.
A spokesperson for the gardaí said the matter is being investigating and added some of the youths involved in the attack have been identified and will be interviewed in the coming days.
Meanwhile, gardaí are also investigating a separate incident at a business premises on the southside of Drogheda in which a car windscreen was smashed.
The incident happened at a local shop as the manager of the premises was locking up for the evening at around 11pm on Thursday, June 22nd.
As she was in the process of locking the doors, she noticed three males approaching in a dar coloured car.
One man got out of the vehicle and was carrying a crowbar.
The woman was not injured, however the windscreen of a nearby car was smashed before the man left the scene.
A spokesperson for the gardaí confirmed they are investigating the incident outside the shop. He said they are keeping an open mind to the motives of the three persons who approached in the car and are investigating all possibilities.
