Barn dance is important fundraiser for new cancer gene sequencing machine

-

THE Kilmoon Barn Dance is gearing up for another big night that has become famous over the last number of years. Hugely supported by the surrounding communities and with people making the journey from all over the Northeast, it is one event not to be missed on the Summer calendar. This ticket only event (which includes food) will take place on Saturday July 15th.

Held with the customary Country & Western theme the ever popular night will see a wave in the thousands of Stetsons and Stilettos descend to Cushinstown Athletic Club from 8pm until late for a night of craic and music and ‘Keepin it Country’. One of the giants of Irish country music Mike Denver will headline the night.

Over the last five years, this event has raised significant funds for cancer research in Ireland. This year net two-thirds of ticket sales will be dedicated to the purchasing of a cancer gene sequencing machine, with the Oesophageal Cancer Fund receiving one-third. The appeal for this machine the very latest in cancer technology, is being spearheaded by one of Ireland’s leading Oncologists Professor Bryan Hennessy who looks after the care of patients in the Oncology units both Our Lady of Lourdes, Drogheda and Beaumont Hospitals.

By advanced analysis of the tumour profile at the time of diagnosis, it will allow Oncologists to tailor cancer treatments, improving cancer care and survival outcomes. It will also allow cancer patients avoid unnecessary treatments where possible and avail of more beneficial targeted therapies.

Tickets at €25 are expected to sell out fast. To purchase call Ciaran on 086 7773294 or purchase directly from the reception at the Oncology Unit in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital.
