Plans for new Whitecross NS school building are at ‘an advanced stage’
PLANS for the new building at Whitecross National School are an ‘an advanced stage of architectural planning,’ it has been revealed.
In a letter to local TD Fergus O’Dowd, the Minister for Education Richard Bruton said work on the major new project is progressing well and is at an advanced stage with the pre-qualification of contractors and the preparation of tender documents now underway.
‘All statutory approvals have been secured and the Design Team submitted the Stage 2b report to the Department for review in April 2017,’ he said.
‘On 25th May 25th 2017 the Department gave approval to the school authorities to have their Design Team commence the process of Pre- Qualification of Contractors. The Pre- Qualification process normally takes about 10 weeks to complete.’
He said a Stage 2b letter was issued to the school on June 1st.
‘Once confirmations outlined in this letter have been received the Department will be in further contact with the Board of Management regarding the progression of the project at that time.’
Deputy O’Dowd has welcomed the new and said it was a hugely important project for the local area.
‘ This is one of the most important school projects that will take place in the North East and will be invaluable to the future generations in the Julianstown and East Meath area when complete,’ said the Deputy.
Principal Burke, the Board of Management, the parents and of course the children have my full support in progressing this project to completion,’ he added.
