-

HUNTERSTOWN ROVERS 2-10 NH FIONNBARRA 1-11 NH Fionnbarra suffered their first defeat in Division 2 as they caught napping in Hunterstown on Saturday evening as Paul Carrie struck a dramatic winning goal in the third minute of injury time.

Rovers drew first blood with a point from Glen Matthews but the Barrs replied with a goal from William Woods, and the same player added two points to extend his side’s lead to 1-2 to 0-2.

Chris McGlynn and Padraig Matthews swapped points before Brendan Lennon was fouled in the square and Paul Carrie fired home from the penalty spot to level the game. However, the Barrs hit back before the break with two points from Bernard Osborne to lead by 1-6 to 1-4.

Rovers made the better start to the second half and Padraig Matthews then knocked over a point to reduce the lead to one. However, Woods responded with three in succession to see his side back in control.

An Alan Landy point on 49 minutes reduced the lead to three, before Paul Carrie followed up with one from a free and one from play.

A pointed free from William Woods on 29 minutes earned the Barrs some breathing space leaving two points in it.

Brendan Lennon reduced the lead back to the minimum and a minute later a long ball into the Finbarrs defence caused consternation.

The dropping ball floated to Paul Carrie who fisted the ball over the head of the onrushing goalkeeper Daithi Woods into the net to secure victory.
