Kickhams win to move off bottom

-

COOLEY KICKHAMS 0-16 KILKERLEY EMMETS 1-10 COOLEY Kickhams got back to winning ways on Saturday night as they recorded a three point victory over Kilkerley to move off the foot of the table.

A combined total of 11 points from Ciaran Sheelan (7) and Brian White (4) inspired the win which sees the Emmets remain bottom of the table after eight games.

Shane Lennon opened the scoring for the visitors but it was Cooley who went on to enjoy the greater share of possession and points from Sheelan and White, along with efforts from Michael Rafferty, Aoghain McGuinness and Gerry Malone ensured they were in control on the scoreboard.

However, Kilkerley refused to give up the fight and a Sean Hand goal on 27 minutes gave them real hope as they trailed by just 0-10 to 1-6 at the break.

The Emmets were unable to build on that score and two early points in the second half had Cooley back in command.

The remainder of the half was relatively even but Cooley always looked to be in charge and they held out for a vital victory.
