Quigley points seal the deal

ST JOSEPHS 1-10 OLIVER PLUNKETTS 1-8 ST Josephs head into the break for the championsh­ip very much in contention for the play-offs after recording a two point win away to an Oliver Plunketts side who had goalkeeper Luke Haggins score a total of six points.

With the wind in their backs in the first half the Drogheda men were in dominant form and it was Haggins who opened the scoring in the game with, followed soon after by a point from Sean Brasil. Derek Mulligan opened the Joes account before three further frees from Haggins put the Plunketts into a four point lead.

A well-taken goal from David McTeggart on 26 minutes saw the Plunketts hold a 1-7 to 0-4 advantage at the break.

The second half would be a very different affair and the Joes got off to a dream start as Alan Quigley found the back of the net. Entering the last ten minutes of normal time the Joes were still two points in arrears. This was halved by a Conall Smyth point, before Haggins restored the gap with yet another free. Points from Quigley and Conall Smyth had the game level going into injury time. With the outcome in the balance it was Quigley who stepped up to the mark with two points to seal victory.
