VTOS MOMENT FOR STUDENTS!
TO mark the end of the Leaving Certificate examinations and QQI assessments, VTOS students celebrated the moment with their family and friends.
Three courses run under the auspices of LMETB were completed in the Adult Education Centre, King Street, Drogheda.
This was an occasion to celebrate the end of year and the successful completion of exams and assessments. The graduation ceremony also included the teachers and tutors who guided the participants to prepare for state examinations and achieve QQI certification. VTOS is a fulltime educational course aimed specifically at adults over the age of 21 and in receipt of a social welfare allowance.
Participants successfully completed a range of courses including Leaving Certificate, QQI General Learning course and QQI Liberal Arts/ Social Studies course where participants are enabled to build up a portfolio of subjects and gain multiple certification. LAEGIS (Louth Adult Education Guidance Information Service) within LMETB offers information and guidance to individuals regarding possible progression options.
Opportunities for learners to attend information and shadowing days in Third Level Colleges are facilitated throughout the year. Students are also prepared for the work place and many have successfully obtained employment.
Students can also avail of the opportunity to participate in social, historical and cultural study trips including art galleries, museums, theatre, at local and national venues. These are important occasions in the academic year to support the demands of the various subjects and a chance to enjoy and explore our rich cultural heritage. The graduation ceremony celebrated the manifold achievements of the 2016-2017 participants and certificates were presented by Cllr Sharon Tolan, the Vice Chair of the LMETB Board and Sadie Ward McDermott, Director of Further Education and Training within LMETB. Graduates have successfully obtained further education places within LMEB and at Third Level colleges including Trinity, Maynooth, DKIT, and DCU.
