Race runner-up Craven still heads leaderboard

-

THE Drogheda Wheelers and Stamullen clubs were both well represented in the placings as round four of the Mark Mullen Memorial Handicap League took place last week at Plattin.

At the end of the 5.5-lap race all the groups had come together, resulting in a bunch sprint to the line, where Mark Heather (Clontarf CC) outsprinted Niall Craven from the promoting Drogheda Wheelers club, with Paul Norton from the Strata3/Velo Revolution Club third, Richie McMullen of Ardee CC fourth, Stamullen Road Club’s Arek Klus fifth and Karl McKenna of McNally Swords CC sixth.

With just two rounds of this league remaining, Niall Craven is sitting comfortably at the top of the leaderboard, with Liam Hanley from Lucan CC, Richie McMullen, Alan Malone, Ross Cadogan and Mark Heather all tucked in behind him and still with high hopes.

In last week’s underage race it was a win for Seamus Connor from Drogheda Wheelers CC, following on from his really great win in the Moynalty GP Under-12 race the previous day.

At this stage it is looking good for overall victory in the underage standings for Seamus, with Pearce Gorman from Stamullen Road Club closest, followed by Darragh Lenehan from Drogheda Wheelers CC and Grace Gorman of Stamullen in fourth place.

Meanwhile, Ardee Cycling Club have been continuing with their mid-week league, which is proving very popular and well supported.

Last week there was a clear victory for Tomas McCabe from the host club, with Emmett Gorman from Stamullen Road Club second and Richie McMullen, Alan Malone, Ben McCourt, Aidan Cunningham, Michael Sheridan and Declan Rafferty filling the remaining points positions.
