Home sweet home for the Dunleer club

THE Seán Carrie/Ollie Brennan Memorial 4-mile road race held in Dunleer was a huge success, with great local support in both sponsorshi­p and participat­ion.

The winner of the ladies race was Niamh Devlin (Dundrum South Dublin) in 23:30, with Icona McElroy (Crusaders AC) second in 24:24 and Dunleer AC’s top road racer Karen Costello third in 24:29. The Dunleer AC ladies won the team prize, with Karen Costello, Nicola Welsh (25:59), Nicola Courtney (30:38) and Siobhán Hanratty (28:52) scoring 43 points, ahead of Belfast Running Club with 57 and North East Runners with 66.

The men’s race was won in 19:58 by Paddy Hamilton (Slieve Gullion Runners), with Dunleer AC junior athlete Jack Boylan second in 20:39. Shane Healy (Metro St Brigid’s) was third in 20:44. Dunleer AC once again won the team prize, with Jack Boylan, Garry Campbell (21:21), Patrick Fitzpatric­k (23:17) and Jack Mc Cullough (23:15) on 23 points, ahead of North East Runners on 62 and Team Carrie on 149.

Elsewhere, at the recent Louth Junior, Senior and Masters Track and Field Championsh­ips, Dunleer AC recorded some fine wins and medal placings.

Aoife Fay won the junior 3000m in 10.27. Nicola Welsh won the senior 1500m in 5.03.56 and the 800m in 2.32.

Karen Costello won the masters W2 3000m in 10.45 and Jacqueline Matthews won the Masters W3 800m in 3.03. Grace Foley won the masters W3 200m in 31.98 and was second in the 100m in 15.65. Seoda Matthews was 3rd in the junior women’s 200m in 28.65.

In the men’s events, Diarmuid Mc Keown won the junior men’s 800m in 1.59. Jack Boylan won the junior men’s 1500m in 4.21, with Anthony Connolly winning the senior men’s 1500m in 4.30, with Patrick Connolly 3rd in 4.52.

Pádraig O Mahoney won the M35 in 5.04. Micheál Mulligan won the M55 1500m in 5.36 with Ian Carroll 2nd in 6.30. Finn Reilly won the junior men’s 400m in 58.12. Pat Fitzpatric­k won the M40 3000m in 9.55, with Micheál Mulligan 1st in the M55 in 11.51 and Ian Carroll 3rd in 13.53.

Santis Kaugars was 1st in the shot putt M35 with 9.98 and 1st in the javelin with 41.04.

In the 800m Pádraig O Mahoney won the 800m M35 in 2.25, Micheál Mulligan won the M55 in 2.50 and Ian Carroll was 2nd in 3.28. Ian Carroll was 2nd in the M55 400m in 87.10.
