Number of cars seized in Drogheda

- BY HUBERT MURPHY

THE location of abandoned cars around the Drogheda area should be forward to Louth CC and the Gardai after a major clampdown in recent weeks.

“It is shocking that in excess of 50 vehicles have been seized by An Garda and Louth County Council in Drogheda and environs over an eight week period. What is also shocking is that many of the vehicles were reported by citizens as having been involved in so called joy riding activities and high speed driving in built up areas. What is not clear is the cause of the proliferation in this activity and also the level of abandoned cars in the area,’ Cllr Paul Bell stated this week.

Bell also expressed his concern about the number of cars seized or recovered by the Garda and Council in the Ballsgrove, Rathmullan and St Finian’s Park area.

“In a very short space of time approximately 11 vehicles have either been seized by the Garda or recovered burnt out having been used in so called joy riding activities in the general vicinity.

‘While I am encouraged that in this regard Garda and Council are responding to the support being offered by the citizens living in these communities I am unclear at this time if any prosecutions are forthcoming. However I am convinced that a continued determined and zero tolerance of these crimes will result in safer communities for all”.
