Next Sunday will be the Final Round of the Special Competitio­n. Saturday will be an 18 Hole Stableford Competitio­n, today (Tuesday) will be an Open Gents Singles. There is a Fun Fourball every Wednesday evening played over 12 holes with a bit of humour, music and craic afterwards in the Clubhouse. This is open to Ladies & Gents - entry at the 1st tee (Members €4 Visitors €8)./

GREENORE LADIES

LAST Thursday’s Open competitio­n winner was Noreen Crichton with 32 pts.

Seana McGuinness continued her good run of form by winning the Profession­al’s Prize on Saturday with 74 nett. Runner-Up was Ann Connor on 76 nett, Gross Kay McCartan on 88 gross and third Mary P. Kirk on 77 nett.

Weekly Thursday open stableford competitio­n continues on 24th August. No alternate day play available.

Saturday next, 26th August, is Lady President Celine Griffin’s prize a strokeplay, medal and golfer of the year competitio­n. BRS booking opens as usual on Wednesday prior at 7pm. List posted in locker room for buffet selection.

LAYTOWN & BETTYSTOWN

THE club hosted its annual Putting Competitio­n recently and in the days leading up the finals players embarked on matches to decide who would compete for the main prizes.

There were three categories - Juniors, Ladies and Men - and all entry fees for the competitio­n were donated to charity, with the prizes kindly sponsored by Denise Walsh and Pat Farrell of Relish Cafe in Bettystown.

In the Junior category the finalists were Eoghan Power and Daniel McKenna who overcame Ellen O’Gorman and Reuban Carolan Maher in exciting semi-finals. Daniel finally came out on top to claim the Junior Putting Trophy.

The ladies semi-finals were Rachel Taylor, Phil Wickham, Carol Wickham and Brenda Phelan and it was Rachel who finished as champion in this category.

It was very much a family affair as Rachel’s dad Denis won the Men’s final, beating Brendan Morgan in a closely contested match. The other semi-finalists in the Men’s section were Dan Mitchell and Oisín Kelly.

Captain Denis Taylor thanked all of the players who had competed and had special mention for tournament organiser Declan Smyth and generous sponsors Relish Cafe & Restaurant­s who have been wonderful supporters of club events for many years.
