Gardaí investigat­ing after digger used in Monasterbo­ice Inn burglary

A safe was stolen during a burglary at the Monasterbo­ice Inn on Friday, September 1st.

The break-in happened overnight and a digger from the site was used to gain access to the premises.

The property was ransacked and a safe was stolen during the incident.

The digger was taken from the site, where work is currently ongoing, and used to break in to the premises.

Gardaí in Drogheda are investigat­ing and would like to hear from anyone who might have noticed anything suspicious in the area on the night in question.

Meanwhile, a family car was destroyed in an arson attack in Moneymore.

The incident happened on Wednesday, August 30th at around 4am.

According to gardaí, a car was driven up behind another vehicle which was parked in the driveway.

The car was then set on fire which obviously damaged the car it was parked up against. The car used to start the fire was a black Ford Fiesta.

Also on the 30th in Moneymore, a woman discovered the windscreen of her car had been smashed with a brick.

The incident happened sometime between midnight and 3.30am.

The public has once again been warned about leaving valuable items in the car after two vehicles were broken into at Old Mellifon Abbey last weekend on Friday and Saturday. Both incidents happened during the afternoon and both vehicles were hired cars. A number of items includings handbags and rucksacks were stolen.
