Perfect six for Greenhills juvenile pair
GREENHILLS juvenile pair Megan Devin and Caitlin Floyd celebrated a major achievement last Tuesday night when winning all six matches in the Redeemer Club A Open competition.
Having won five in a row, it looked like their perfect record was under threat in their final match when they trailed by four after three ends against Mick Garvey of Silverbridge and Alan Thornberry of Greenhills.
However, Megan and Caitlin got their act together and managed to take the next end to trim the deficit to just one shot. They continued that fine form into the next couple of ends to go two up and that seemed to knock the stuffing out of their opponents.
The girls were well and truly in the mood now and they increased their lead in the next to go four up with two ends left.
Alan and Mick were no doubt reflecting on missing gilt-edge chances earlier in the game, but they stayed calm and steadied the ship in the seventh end to cut the gap down to two shots.
With just one end to play it was ‘game on’, but despite drawing some lovely shot and putting sustained pressure on the two junior players, Megan and Caitlin held their nerve to win by one shot and complete a whitewash in the competition.
The Greenhills Singles Championship will be held in the next couple of weeks on a date to be confirmed and members are asked to put their name on the noticeboard if they are interested in taking part.
Juveniles return to Tuesday training tonight (Tuesday) from 7 to 8pm. Play for seniors is on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 to 10.30pm.
