Yachting on the beach was a big success for Bettystown area

THE staging of the 52nd European sandyachti­ng championsh­ips in Bettystown recently showed off the area to its very best.

That’s the view of Cllr Sharon Tolan who praised the organisers at a recent area council meeting.

‘It was absolutely fantastic and we had visitors from all over the world. It gave us great exposure on a national and internatio­nal stage and was fantastic for the municipal district and the Meath CC executive,’ she said.

FIRST AID COURSE DRAWING SESSIONS

Cllr Eimear Ferguson also praised the organisers. ‘Congratula­tions to Alan and Tom and the committee for a fantastic event. There was a huge economic benefit to the area and all the B&Bs were taken and the eateries saw a great increase.’

Cllr Tom Kelly also spoke of the success of the event and said that the Laytown races were another huge benefit to the district.

It had the biggest attendance ever and he thanked the council for their assistance.

DEVENISH will host the 2017 Pointto-Point & Country Fair at Dowth, in conjunctio­n with the Meath Hunt and Tara Harriers on Sunday, October 29th.
