Gardaí ask public for caution in build up to Halloween

-

GARDAÍ are asking businesses to secure any old pallets or other materials that could be used to fuel a bonfire in the run up to the busy Halloween period.

They have also appealed to parents to be aware of where their children at Halloween are and to discourage them from taking part in bonfire building and the use of illegal fireworks. As far back as August, youngsters were caught hoarding pallets for Halloween and more recently there were attempts to break in and removed pallets from the Woodies Store at the M1 Retail Park.

A spokesperson for the gardaí appealed to parents not to drop their teenagers off in nearby estates or villages assuming they are simply meeting one or two friends.

He said groups of youths are congregating at Halloween, letting off fireworks and causing annoynace to locals in these area.

‘We would discourage parents from leaving teens in another village or estate unsupervised,’ he said. ‘Please be aware of where your children are at Halloween. ‘You end up with 30 or 40 of them, they get a pack mentality and they are racing around letting off fireworks and what not and causing upset to local residents in these areas,’ he said.

Already, fireworks and bangers have been causing a serious hazard in various locations around town.

Facebook posts on the Tullyallen Village Notices page revealed that locals have been terrorised by groups of teenagers letting off bangers in the local area, particularly on the main road between the shcop and the school and the road from the lane up to the Church.
