THE Old Drogheda Society will be running the Annual Ghosts of Halloween Walk and Talk on Friday October 27th departing from Millmount Museum at 7.30 pm.

The tour will start with an explanatio­n of the history of the very Irish festival, Halloween, its traditions such as Barnbracks, Bonfires, the Jack O Lantern and why people dressed up for Halloween.

We will hear of some of the spirits who roam around this period The Dullahan, The Banshee, Puca, and the Fear Dorocha ,

We will then start the walk and you will hear about some of the people and events featured in Drogheda’s somewhat bloody history and run into some of their ghosts. . Oliver Cromwell, The Shelling of Millmount, The shooting of Liam Leech, Sir Edward Poynngs, The hanging judge, Drogheda’s red light district, John Boyle O’Reilly, Benjamin Whitworth, Edward Bruce, John Philip Holland, The Van Homrigh family, Anne Hardman who came back from the dead, The Cadaver skeleton stones, Nano Reid, St Oliver Plunkett and many more.

While there will be references to some scary parts of Drogheda’s history and a visit to a cemetery, this tour is aimed at looking into Drogheda’s rich history rather than the Americanis­ed Halloween of scary monsters.

Tickets are on sale in Drogheda Tourist Office priced €3 and there will be a limited number on sale.
