THE Slane Community

Centre Committee will launch their fundraisin­g campaign with a Monster Draw with over €70,000 in prizes, in the Conyngham Arms Hotel on Saturday October 28th from 7-9pm.

Slane Village has become a community-driven centre of innovation that is providing leadership and vision for the region. The strategic developmen­t of the village has been led by the Slane Community Forum which is the umbrella group for

35 voluntary and business groups.

These efforts have been recognised when the Slane Community was awarded the top Community Award for County Meath and also received the 32-county, Pride of Place, Tourism award.

The Slane Community Forum identified that the developmen­t of a Community Centre was the priority project for the village.

According to Maeve Carbin, chair of the Community Centre Committee ‘ The site, next to St. Patrick’s National School, has been secured and planning permission has been obtained from Meath County Council. An applicatio­n to the Sports Capital Grant has been submitted and the outcome is imminent.’

She continues ‘ The Community Centre will be a major resource for Slane National School and will provide an indoor facility for a variety of groups including Active Retirement, Sporting Organisati­ons and Drama & Variety Performanc­es.’

The Monster Draw will be limited to 2000 tickets costing €100 each. The prizes include 3 cars from Tadg Riordan in Ashbourne, holidays and cash
