Man was removed from train platform

A MAN who was extremely drunk and had to be removed from the platform of a North Dublin train station for his own safety became verbally abusive towards gardai, a court has heard.

Christophe­r Clarke (27) refused to stop using foul language towards gardai and was arrested and brought to Balbriggan Garda Station.

The defendant, who has 73 previous conviction­s, including 38 for public order offences, pleaded guilty before Swords District Court to being intoxicate­d and using threatenin­g and abusive behaviour at Balbriggan Train Station on December 15th, 2016.

He has an address at Moneymore in Drogheda, Co Louth and has three previous conviction­s for public order offences.

Defence barrister Annette Kealy said the defendant ‘doesn’t feel good about his behaviour’ on the day.

‘He was annoying and abusive towards the gardai and he is apologetic,’ she said, adding the defendant left school at 15 and grew up with alcohol and drugs.

‘He wandered and drifted through alcohol problem,’ she said.

She said the defendant has been in custody since March on a different matter and has been thinking a lot about his life.

‘He is determined to stay away from alcohol and get into the workforce,’ she said, adding he has linked in with Merchant’s Quay Project and has undertaken a drugs and alcohol awareness course while in custody.
