Carmel Doyle 1938-2017

Carmel Doyle, Christianstown, Readypenny, Dundalk, whose death has occurred, was a lady for whom family was her main focus in life.

She passed away peacefully in Beaumont Hospital on 12 September, 2017.

Aged 79, she was originally from Ballymakenny, Monasterboice, the eldest of eight children of the late Patrick and Eileen Halligan.

Carmel had six sisters and one brother, and attended Fieldstown National School.

She later worked for the Smith family in Piperstown, minding children, and then moved to work in the Glyde Inn, Duffy’s Cross, near Dundalk, where she met her future husband, Kevin. They were married in 1966, and had two sons and one daughter.

Carmel worked in the Readypenny Inn, where she became a familiar face to patrons during her 26 years there.

She was also involved in the ICA, but throughout her life, family remained her top priority.

Her three children, Martin, David and Linda, were the focus of her attention, and she also delighted in grandchildren, Cassie, Andrea and Alicia when they arrived.

Carmel is survived by her husband, Kevin; sons, Martin and David; daughter, Linda; sisters, Aileen, Maureen, Pauline, Angela and Ita; brother, Paddy; grandchildren, Cassie, Andrea and Alicica; son-in-law, Barry; Martin’s partner, Gillian; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. Carmel was predeceased by her sister, Patricia.

After reposting at the home of her daughter, Linda, her remains were removed to St. Michael’s Church, Darver, where the funeral Mass was celebrated by parish priest, Fr. Patrick McEnroe.

Readings were given by niece, Ann Marie Dunne and brother, Paddy; while the prayers of the faithful were led by grand-daughter, Andrea; sister, Aileen; son, Martin and niece, Gabriella.

Gifts symbolising Carmel’s life were brought to the altar by her sisters, Aileen and Ita; daughter, Linda and grandchildren, Cassie and Andrea.

These included a Christening shawl, her phone, as she enjoyed talking so much, and a picture of her grandchildren. The offertory gifts were brought up by Cassie and Andrea; and a communion reflection was given by niece, Caroline McCaul. Beautiful music by Ruth Kelly enhanced the ceremony.
