Holly surges up the hill to strike gold in Navan

HOLLY Brennan of Cille’s AC was crowned the u16 girls Leinster champion in Navan on Saturday.

Lucy Cleary ran great in the U10s race, while her sister Shannon who was on the Meath county team, ran well in her 2000m race,

Jonathon Logue delivered a solid performanc­e in the U12 2000m which was excellent for his third race. Alex Harrington had a strong run in his 3000m race to finish well on the Meath team.

Next up was the U16 girls team of five, where Holly Brennan finished in first place in a very strong competitiv­e field.

Holly stayed in the lead pack for the first 3000m and put in an incredible effort for the last 1000m, finding herself shoulder to shoulder with one girl. With 250m to go Holly surged up the hill and drove all of the way to the finish line to become the u16 Leinster champion.

Meg Sowray, Caoimhe Walsh, Ellie Hanley Rice and Evelyn Mullen all ran very well to finish 7th club team.

Liam Hyland and James Smith had strong runs in the u16 boys. Ciaran Smith and Darragh Collins finished very strongly in the u18 boys 6000m.

The amazing Cilles AC marathon runners did their club proud on Sunday. They put in a huge amount of training in all weathers and it paid off today with everyone finishing in fine style.

The finishing times were as follows: Ciara Lenihan - 3:35.47, Deirdre Mc Nulty - 3:41.28, Graham Devitt - 3:43.01, Brona Cromwell - 4:05.10, Alan Mulligan - 4:10.03, Ian Casey - 4:19.13, Tim Donnelly - 4:23.18, Susan Kielty - 5:18.21, Caroline Conroy - 5:18.22.
