Killary book final spot after supercharged comeback
MIDFIELDER Sean Clare completed a terrific Killary Emmets revival by scoring the winning point deep into injury time in this Under-21A semi-final at Carlanstown on Sunday.
The Syddan/Castletown combination trailed by nine points early in the second half and never led until Clare hit that match-winning score.
The Kells men had 1-3 on the board before Killary opened their account and they enjoyed a 2-7 to 1-2 lead at the break. Indeed, Killary were fortunate to be only eight points in arrears at the interval as the town side had ample opportunities to add to their goal tally.
KILLARY EMMETS GAEIL COLMCILLE 3-8 2-10
Gaeil Colmcille increased their lead on the restart, before a Clare goal give Killary hope. They were back in the game in earnest when Daire Rowe produced a brilliant finish to the net to leave the minimum between the teams with a little over 10 minutes remaining.
Cormac Mattimoe pointed twice for Gaeil Colmcille, but three successive points from Rowe had the sides level, the equaliser coming from a free in added time.
Then came Clare’s dramatic winner as Killary made it back to the A Final for the second successive year.
