Bid to close lane off the Donore Road

-

A BID is to be made to close a laneway (right) off the Donore Road after anti social behaviour at the location.

Councillor Paul Bell has vowed to help residents in St Finian’s Park and Donore Road who have been subjected to years of issues.

“In response to residents’ concerns which have been echoed by gardai and council, I have committed to putting forward a motion to Council for the purpose of closing the right of way which will reduce the number of pedestrian access points from Donore Road from three to two,’ said Bell.

“While I have done everything possible to avoid such a course of action. The concerns of residents can no longer be ignored. Acts of antisocial behaviour include criminal damage, verbal abuse of residents and illegal drug related activity not to mention illegal dumping. ‘Local residents have also complained that the laneway is being used for the distribution of illicit contraband allowing individuals involved in this activity to go unchecked and unchallenged. Consideration to closing lane off had been considered in the past but it was considered to be to disruptive for citizens using the bus stop at BD.

‘However as the new bus stop is further down the road Ballsgrove exit is viable and for those citizens walking to the thatch the pedestrian lane way from St Finian’s Park to the junction at Donore Road will remain open.’
