Solicitor John Kealy was top Circuit of Ireland rally driver and Drogheda karter

The death, which took place suddenly on Monday last in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, of Mr. John Fintan Kealy, solicitor Laurence Street, Drogheda, caused deep and widespread regret in the town and district where he was a most popular personalit­y.

The deceased gentleman, who was aged 33, was educated at the local Christian Brothers’ Schools and at Castleknoc­k College. He served his apprentice­ship with Messrs. McKeever and Son, solicitors, Laurence Street ond. qualified in 1958, then joining the firm of John L. Kealy, solicitors which was founded by his late father.

A very keen motoring enthusiast he took part in the Circuit of Ireland on numerous occasions and was a founder-member of the Boyne Valley Motor Club. He was also actively associated with the Drogheda Karting Club and it was while he was at the Monasterbo­ice ‘ track on Sunday supervisin­g the staging of that club’s internatio­nal event that he became ill and was removed to hospital where his unexpected and lamented death took place. .

The late Mr. Kealy was also deeply interested in amateur theatrical­s and had been a member of the St. Philomena’s Drama Group for a number of years, taking part in several plays and producing a number ako.

The late Mr. Kealy is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ann Kealy; mother, Kathleen Kealy; brother Michael; sister, Mary (U.S.A.); Mrs. Michael Kealy.
