Husband and wife contest club final
THERE wasn’t a spare seat in the house for the Greenhills Club Championship singles final played over nine ends last Thursday night.
It was very much a family affair as Peter Woods was pitted against his wife Claire Woods - and there was no quarter asked or given in a ding-dong battle!
Peter was fairly confident going into the game and he started well to open a two-shot lead, but Claire showed real courage, going on the attack to wipe the slate clean in the fourth end.
Peter stayed calm and composed and hit back again to re-establish a two-shot cushion.
That setback must have spurred Claire on again as she clicked into over drive, taking a one-shot lead with two ends to go.
However, as the nerves started to show, Peter steadied the ship and came up trumps by three shots in a very tactical game to lift the title.
The chairman Val Maguire stated in his address that the final was a very enjoyable game and that it was a great credit to the finalists. He added he would like to thank all the umpires who officiated in the games and the ladies for their refreshments throughout the tournament.
The club would like to extend sympathy to the Reilly family on their recent bereavement.
The turkey doubles will be starting shortly and members are asked to put their name forward to try and win their Christmas dinner.
Times of play for juveniles are Tuesday 7-8.15pm and for seniors Tuesday and Thursday 8-10.30pm.
