ST MARY’S AND THE NICK’S SECURE OVER €100,000

A NUMBER of local sporting clubs will benefit from the Sports Capital Grants, announced by Minister Shane Ross.

The biggest winners in Louth are the St Mary’s club in Ardee who are developing a Vision 2020 Developmen­t Plan. The club has been working hard on its array of facilities, including a new stand and running track. Their project will benefit to the tune of €115,000.

St Nicholas GFC on the Rathmullen Road are also doing a major refurbishm­ent of their clubhouse and changing rooms ad have been awarded €108,000.

Glen Emmets will be getting €68,000 towards pitch floodlight­ing and Holy Family boxing club in Ballsgrove have secured over €94,000 for new showers, toilets and dressing areas.

Stabannon Parnells will get €105,000 for floodlight­s and a community walkway project.

Independen­t Councillor Kevin Callan remarked ‘whilst we continue to be in need of more and more countywide sports facilities for all types of sport, the work of voluntary groups must be noted and recognised for the good that it does for our communitie­s and this funding is a small way of seeking to assist those great efforts.’

Local Fine Gael Councillor, Sharon Tolan says that local sporting clubs in the East Meath area will benefit from the investment of €147,000 from the Sports Capital Grants.

Local GAA Club, St Colmcilles were awarded a grant of €83,000 to carry out much-needed works on their clubhouse in Piltown. “This is sure to have a massive positive impact on the club’s developmen­t plans for their clubhouse in Piltown, and I wish them well with their works” said Tolan.

“As newly elected Chairwoman of East Meath Utd Football Club, I am thrilled to receive the news that we have been awarded a grant of €45,000. The club have very ambitious plans on both the facilities and the football side of things. This funding is great news, and is sure to encourage our hard working committee.

‘With so many people actively involved in the many sporting organisati­ons we have to offer in East Meath, it is really positive and encouragin­g, to receive funding like the Sports Capital Grant, that can make a big impact in assisting clubs with delivering their facilities.

I am very grateful for the efforts of our Meath Minister’s Helen McEntee, Regina Doherty and Damien English, who worked with me on behalf of local clubs to deliver this funding.”

Some other big winners were Drumconrat­h GFC who receive €48,500 for a gym room. Nobber’s new dressing rooms benefit by €77,500 and the Slane Sports and Community Centre plan gets €89,500.
