Local artist’s retro Viaduct posters for sale at craft fair
RETRO railway-style posters of the Boyne Viaduct will be showcased by an award-winning local illustrator and storyboard artist Roger O’Reilly at Gifted Contemporary Craft and Design Fair in Dublin’s RDS from December 5th-10th.
Gifted celebrates the best of over 600 Irish designers and makers from fashion to jewellery and beyond.
Record-breaking crowds of over 45,000 are expected to generate more than €1m per day in sales at this year’s largest-ever six-day fair.
Roger O’Reilly of Irelandposters.ie specialises in travel posters in the style of railway advertisements from the thirties.
Roger, who has worked on storyboards for clients such as Coca- Cola and Diageo as well as the TV series ‘Vikings’ has also created posters of many of the 90 lighthouses around the Irish coast.
‘I was inspired by the old 1930s colour railway posters in the 1930s in the UK. They bypassed Ireland at the time, where posters were mainly in black and white,’ explained Roger, who is originally from West Street where his family ran the Carlton restaurant.
‘It started off as a project for myself when I drew posters of Drogheda and my adopted city Kilkenny as gifts for friends.
‘Well-designed wall art is a great addition to any home, but travel posters bring an extra dimension in that they represent a personal connection.
“They may illustrate somewhere you have been or they simply serve to say ‘ this is where I come from’.’
