Seapoint volunteers need a lot more backing

-

HOW many times do you walk down a beach in the district and see litter everywhere. Some people act as beach wardens and go out of their way to clean up. But what happens to the rubbish?

I think greater co-operation is needed in certain areas between volunteers and the council because I know up to 30 bags of rubbish were collected not so long ago at Seapoint. But they were not collected and the items just washed out to sea again.

Another issue out there is dog fouling and it continues at will it seems. Now it’s been discarded into the sand dunes just to compound the problem.

Library photos

I checked out the Drogheda Photographic Club’s exhibition in the library and it is a terrific array of talent.

Excellent stuff from the likes of Fintan McCarthy, Chris Costello, John Durnin, Gerry Fitzgerald, Michael Feeney and the rest.

But if I had to pick out two of the best - for me - it has to be the striking ‘Little Emily’ by Judy Boyle and Millmount by Peter Cunningham.

Des Clinton also has great images from the 1916 Rising and that general period on show. Masterful stuff. But Des says he didn’t actually take them and I believe him!!!

Ravens fly from Beaulieu to Cooley

IT could make a good title for a song but I’m told that it would be an even better film, considering what happens each day.

Locals say that the sight of hundreds upon hundreds of ravens leaving Beaulieu each morning is a wonder. They head off as it gets light in a frenzy and head for Cooley. They return as the darkness draws in, equally as excited. Nature at its best.

Bettystown electric

A GOOD point raised by Cllr Tom Kelly in Bettystown. Why, he asks, is there no electric car charging point in Bettystown? I wonder where is the closest one to the East Meath coastal area as I know there’s at least two in Drogheda and one in Ardee.

?? ?? It was sad to see the Children’s Shop closed up on West Street. It was rented out this year but as Mary remarked in a note on the window ‘if you require school uniforms at present there are shops close by that can provide what you need. In the meantime...
