PANTO BEAUTY AND THE BEAST AT TLT

- By FIONA MAGENNIS

BEAUTY and the Beast will be coming to the TLT theatre in Drogheda this December featuring a host of famous faces.

OH yes it will.

The spectacular Christmas pantomime was performed in Limerick last year and now the hit show is taking to the road, arriving in Drogheda for performances on Friday, December 15th and Saturday, December 23rd.

The special tour will take to the roads of Ireland as Robert C Kelly, presents the spectacular Christmas pantomime Beauty and the Beast at TLT Drogheda.

Beauty and the Beast will feature a starstudded cast including comedian Karl Spain, Red Rock star Adam Weafer and from kids favourite, Twigin, RTÉjr star Clara Murray.

Karl took time out of his busy schedule last week to speak to the Drogheda Independent about his upcoming role as Bertie, the Castle Keeper.

A well known face on Irish TV on everything from The Six O’Clock Show to Karl Spain Wants a Woman and Operation Transformation, Karl got involved in Panto for the first time last year after writing his first Pantomime ‘Freezin: The Story of the Snow Queen’ alongside fellow comic Al Porter back in 2015. They also wrote Two Ugly Sisters and Yer Wan.

‘It was kind of a one off, I thought, when I originally got involved last year and now this is the second one I’m performing in and the fifth one that I’ve been involved in overall,’ said Karl.

‘I’m in my 40s now, you think there’s no new skills to learn and here I am singing and dancing. Three or four years ago I would have thought I’d never see that but here I am and I’m really enjoying it.’

The comedian said although he will be left with little time off over Christmas, he is really enjoying his time with the panto and is looking forward to taking the production on the road.

‘We’ve got Christmas Eve off and Christmas day but I’ll probably by driving somewhere on St Stephen’s Day to perform. I like being busy over Christmas. I’m so looking forward to it,’ said Karl. ‘Last year was my first panto, I feel like a veteran now.’

And Karl is very familiar with this part of the country having performed stand up gigs in Drogheda many times and the comedian also has friends living in the area. ‘It’s going to be something different touring the Panto around this year. I’m very familiar with Drogheda so I’m looking forward to going back there. The audiences were always brilliant, they are a great crowd. I’ve friends living in that part of the world around Dundalk, Castleblayney, Carrickmacross so I’ve done a lot of gigging and socialising around there.’

Karl said the show is a fantastic production to be part of and is happy to be on the road with it to give people around the country the chance to experience it for themselves. ‘ There’s some great dance numbers and the production values are incredible,’ he said.
