Under-20s still 100% despite draw

DLSP BOYNE 17 17

DESPITE finishing level with DLSP, Boyne Under-20s claimed the points from this league encounter as their opponents had no replacements front rows and late in the game had to seek uncontested scrums.

The game opened at a frantic pace, but defences held firm until the 25th minute when DLSP found space down the left wing, and following some skilful handling their full back managed to get through for a converted try.

Boyne immediately responded, with their strong pack putting pressure on the opposition scrum on the 22-metre line, and a great scrum half break led to a super Boyne try.

From the restart, Boyne went back on the attack and won a penalty close to the DLSP line, and from the quick tap Sean Woods crashed over for their second try. With Jack Mitchell adding the extras, Boyne had a 12-7 lead.

However, DLSP hit back when a neat kick through by their out half saw them win the race for the touchdown to leave the half-time score 14-12 to the hosts.

On the restart it was DLSP who scored next with a penalty, but Boyne’s spirit never wavered and they kept pressing, earning a lineout five metres from the DLSP line.

From the last play of the game the throw and catch were perfectly executed and the resultant drive got them over the line for the final score to make it 17-17.

The rules state that DLSP had to concede the points as they were unable to field a front row in the latter stages, and so Boyne’s 100% record remains intact.
